I was wondering how much antidepressant effects I would notice when taking selegiline hcl sublingual instead of just swallowing. I have been on selegiline for over two years now and don’t feel like it has any noticable effects. Originally I started taking it for its neuroprotective effects but hoped it would also be a weak antidepressants.
I know that 5mg sublingual is already unselective territory, so I guess there should be extra caution for tyramine. I never had any medications that work on MAO-A, therefore hope to get more antidepressant effects besides also the higher level Type-B inhibition.
Is this approach sensible or would it be wiser to try phenelzine/nardil or parnate/tranylcypromine on a low dosage.
I would try transdermal selegiline first. If that doesnt work I would try a classic MAOI
I also don’t think taking 5mg sublingual has any noticeable effects in antidepressant or even stimulating way. If that is your goal I would go with a classic maoi as you said. But why would you want that? Are you diagnosed or is it just self experiment?
